Unity in Diversity, Honor in the Difference

We are the Shema YWAM, a YouTube Channel dedicated to conversations on Bible translation. We exist to serve a growing number of YWAMers who are united by a common purpose - to see, still in this generation, the Bible translated into every mother tongue.

We bring together a variety of perspectives and resources to build unity, honor and balance into our Bible translation movement. The videos will be short (around 5 minutes), and will feature interviews and talks with a variety of translation practitioners from the YWAM community. Different playlists will focus on different aspect of Bible translation.

Why Shema?

Shema is the Hebrew word used in Deuteronomy 6 to call the people of Israel to internalize God’s words in their hearts. Internalization is a familiar concept in the world of Bible translation, because mother tongue translators usually internalize a passages before translating it.

Shema is also what this channel is about. It is a safe nest where we can listen to one another as we learn how to do Bible translation. Today in YWAM we have people approaching translation through a variety of methods: Jesus Film, Taste & See, written translation, Deaf translation, Bible storytelling, OBT, OMT and OBI. Our combined efforts have produced translations into hundreds of languages already. Shema YWAM is about listening, honoring and learning from each other, so we can better fulfill the calling of our generation.

We hope to create a supportive, kind, and mutually helpful community, dedicated to serve a variety of initiatives, celebrating God's word through our combined and diverse efforts. Our moto is Unity in Diversity, Honor in the Difference.

Our Mission

• Collaborate: A safe space where varied YWAM translation initiatives converge to share, learn, and support each other.

• Facilitate: A hub where experiences and resources are shared to enhance each one’s capacity and efficacy.

• Innovate: Encourage disruptive methodologies, as we explore both established and emerging models of translation.

• Educate: Offer insights, guidance, and training resources while respecting and integrating the unique call of each initiative.

• Empower: Encourage initiatives in maintaining their unique identity and approach while mutually enriching our collective shared call in YWAM.

Living Out the YWAM Values

In the Shema YWAM channel, our heart is to weave YWAM's core values into every bit of our Bible translation work. We want to make sure our translation methods are soaked in YWAM's values. No matter the age, the background or how much people know about Bible translation, if they are passionate about sharing God's Word with the bibleless, they have a place in the Shema YWAM collective.

Collaboration Without Conformity

We respect the independence, calling, and methods of each group, and offer a space where everyone can gain from shared wisdom without loosing their unique identity.

The Shema YWAM is a collective - it does not have a directive role. It is just a space for conversation and a platform for cooperation. We invite YWAM's translation practitioners to:
